Free Tools and Inexpensive Tools. LastPass – a Free Password Management Program. This is a continuation of a short series where I’ll introduce you to some of the best tools I’ve found in several years of searching. LastPass – A Free Password Management System
Today’s computing world seems to be become more and a series of isolated enclaves where you must enter a user name and password to get access to the goodies. This can cause significant problems, but with security and with time lost. If you’ve ever wasted an hour trying to get into a site where you just KNOW that you know the password, you’ll understand the time loss. The security issue is also large and glaring. Your choices come down to using the same password everywhere (YIKES!!!! Don’t Do That! – on theft or one bad employee somewhere and your world is opened to the wrong people), developing a system (also fairly easy to hack), writing the passwords down (don’t get your wallet stolen). or a secure Password Management System. The two systems I hear most often are RoboForm and LastPass. I’ve used LastPass for years and like it.
You remember one master password and then you can access your user names and passwords from any computer – securely. Further if the computer has the LastPass browser add-on installed, LastPass will usually fill in the User Name and Password for you when you arrive at a log in screen,
