Your Internet Marketing Dream.  Don’t Quit – Just Do It!

Dont Quit - Just Do It!

Dont Quit – Just Do It!

I’ve talked about this before, but every now and then I like to revisit it.

Internet Marketing and Network Marketing have many things in common.  They both require work and for the solo entrepreneur, they require self motivation and discipline.  Those are just words until you actually set out on your journey.

Mindset – the Foundation – Just Do It!

The image for this blog post is my mantra and my slogan.  The double meaning in this simple image provides a message that we must ingrain deep into our very fiber.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in training for the next step in our journey, fighting the current dragon that we forget mindset.

Motivation Erosion

Once you forget to focus on your mindset, you will notice what I call Motivation Erosion.  You begin to wonder if it will ever happen.  You decide that it won’t matter if you take a day or two off.  The slide starts very gently.  Then you wake up and realize that you have been out of the game, not for hours, and not for days, but for weeks.   Remember Just Do It!

Your success is a marathon, not a sprint.  Get back in the game and Just Do it.

Frustration and Overwhelm

Very often, we look at where we are and where we need to go and get frustrated that we are not moving fast enough. We set targets and miss them by a mile.  My favorite saying when I see, hear (or feel) this is “Nibble, Nibble.  I can eat the whole damn elephant, if I just Nibble, Nibble.”  This is another way of saying “Accept what is and Just Do It!”   We are walking what is new ground for each of us.  I can tell you from a lot of personal experience, the ONLY way you can set targets and target dates that you should expect to hit is when you are doing something you are VERY familiar with.  When you are in new territory you should set targets and strive to reach them.  On the other hand you need to accept that you are guessing and not beat yourself up when you guess wrong.  Pick yourself up, set a new target and Just Do It!

Never, Never, Never Give Up!

On October 29, 1941, U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill visited Harrow School.  In part he was there to hear the traditional songs he had sung there as a youth.  He was also there to speak to the students. He was invited to give a speech, Churchill stood before the students and gave his famous (and short) speach:

“Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, give up. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up.”

What we often forget is that this speech was given just a few months after the period which has been called Britain’s Darkest Hour.  Churchill would have been happy to say “Just Do It!

A Truism from the IT World

The Truisim – I wrote a post a while back about a little saying that everyone I know in the IT world accepts as absolute truth.  Before the 90’s the truism wne “Good, Quick, Cheap, Pick two”  As the industry became more complex, it slowly morphed int “Good, Quick, Cheap – Pick one!”   Somehow in the Internet Marketing field we expect success to be really solid, very quickly and very inexpensive.  We certainly have enough scam artists flooding our emails with “Done for you [quick], money today [Good and quick] for $27 [cheap].”  Forget that nonsense and Just Do it!   In order to build something solid, it won’t be quick, it won’t be easy and it won’t be cheap (time and/or money).   We just need to accept that and DON’T QUIT>

Don’t Quit – Just Do it!

If you decide and I mean REALLY decide that you are going to make it happen, it will happen.  If one thing doesn’t seem to work, give it a good solid try.  If it still doesn’t work, try something else, which is a WHOLE different thing than quitting.

The One Way to Guarantee You Lose – QUIT!

Obvious, right!  Of course it is, but when we start to drag it gets lost in the clutter.  Put the sign up.  Adjust your mindset and Just Do It!

Until next time, you have a Great Day!

Dr Hale

  2. Thank you Hale, I like the idea of ‘nibble nibble nibble’. Do you remember the children’s story, ‘The Three Little Pigs’?

  3. i think i would be a horrible network marketer. and i’m proving to be terrible at internet marketing too. 😛 but this is a great reminder. i will not quit! although graphic design and web design is my trade, i still need to learn the marketing side and internet marketing if i’m going to find clients. 🙂

    • Janet,

I recently wrote a post that might interest you. It is called Marketers and IT Professional Don’t Mix.
I realized that as a web designer, by interested in the person ended at the human interface to the website. My focus was on the coe, the reliability, the netwrok, bakcup, etc.
The marketer’s interest also ends at the Human Interface to the Website, just from the other direction. All they care about is motivation, influences, etc. They don’t know or care about the code of the file servers, etc.

      Thanks for commenting,
      Dr. Hale

  4. Dr Hale,
Lovely post. “Quitters Never Win”. and the sadd truth is they may be just inch away from winning when they quit.
In this day and age, people want instant gratification, but unfortunately it doesn’t work. Love what you said -‘your success is a marathon, not a sprint’.

    Thanks for sharing

  5. Hi Hale, I am pretty familiar with motivation erosion and it’s amazing how much time pass. At one point I stopped blogging and when I started back, 6 months had passed.. Not Good! Just have to just do it like you said and not stop!
