Talking on the Phone – Where You Sit Makes a Difference!

Please Comment

Talking on the phone is hard“Talking on the phone” and “calling your list” for many Network Marketers (like me) is like wrestling with a 500 pound Gorilla.  You do it because it has to be done, but you know in heart that you will lose each and every wresting bout.  This post may help you win more of those wresting matches.

Talking on the phone gets easier over time, but for a lot of us, it is still low on the list of “things I like to do.”

I’d like to share a couple of things that I found recently that make a huge difference when I am talking on the phone.  I actually feel like I win some of the sessions.

Talk on the Phone to People Who Have an Interest in Network Marketing.

It took a while, but I finally figured out how to use the Internet Marketing skills I have learned for the past few years to generated names and phone numbers of people who have an interest.  I created a couple of free eBooks (Network Marketing in the 21st Century and Network Marketing for the Digital Generation.)  I send advertising to http://HalePringle.net/ebook1.htm or http://HalePringle.net/ebook2.htm    Anyone who downloads one of these eBooks has indicated that  they have at least a passing interest in Network Marketing.

I found that talking on the phone to these people is MUCH easier to make than calls I make to “my friends and family”.  It is also easy to “add two per day.”

I share the cost and the leads with my team and all of us have people to talk to.  Talking on the phone is lots easier.

That Wasn’t Enough!

I still found that sitting at my computer making calls on my cell phone  was difficult.  I would get antsy.  That was when I made my second discovery.

I heard a talk by Andrew Cass a while back and his main point was that you should do different tasks in different settings.  Creative writing is probably not easy sitting in your office.  Reading a novel in front of a computer or studying for a test is also probably difficult.  You need to find your setting that is best for each activity.

For me, when I sit at my computer my fingers start to get itchy.  Since I have worked at systems analysis, software development and programming for years, my subconscious want me to stop goofing off and “get to work.”   It doesn’t matter that I am working, my subconscious doesn’t feel like I am working.

Making Calls with Skype Make Talking on the Phone Easier for Me

I discovered that you can pay Skype for a premium account for unlimited calls in the US and Canada and very inexpensive calls to the UK, Europe, Australia, and so on.   I could also adjust the settings so that people saw my caller ID when I made the calls.

I wrote a post recently about using a nice To Do List system called Remember the Milk as a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool. Remember the Milk (RTM) allows me to schedule calls and record my results.

Talking on the phone on Skype is easierNow I can put on my headset, look at the calls that are due today, copy and paste a phone number and dial.   My subconscious is happy that I am “working” at the computer and I am much happier.

I am calling people who want to hear my message and the antsy feeling is gone.

I hope this helps you wrestle you 500 pound phone.

  1. When you speak with a prospect, try to make sure to ask questions and encourage the person to share more about themselves. Then it can help you to understand their position and how you can help him with your best opportunity.

  2. As consumers, we now consume orders of magnitude more information compared to previous generations. The rise of the search engine and the smartphone made the world’s information accessible to anyone on a 24/7 basis.
