Internet Marketing Tip: Quick tip on Google Keywords Tool

Please Comment

Internet Marketing TipsHere is a short and sweet Internet Marketing Tip.

We all know that we need to use high traffic, low competition, relevant keywords if we are to have a prayer of getting organic Internet Traffic.   We need to be developing great content in areas that people are actually searching for.   So we end up using Google’s Keyword Tool (or a paid tool that uses Google’s Keyword Tool 🙂 )

I don’t know about you, but I get tired of paging down looking through the suggested keywords when I use the Google Keywords Tool.   Well you don’t have to.  Here are the steps to find high traffic, low competition, relevant keywords:

Google Keyword Tool – Internet Marketing Tip

  1. Be sure to log in (upper right) once to get there. You get 800 plus suggestions when you are logged in versus 200 if you are not. Use your Gmail or G+ log in.
  2.  Enter your keyword and submit
  3.  There are some tabs in the middle of the page “Keywords Ideas” shows you the whole list (change the number displayed over on the right). “Ad Group Ideas (Beta)” groups them.
  4.  I like to download them – Ad Group Ideas actually gives you more – download straight into Excel.
  5.  Highlight the entire Competition column
  6.  Click on Home –> Sort and Filter (Smallest to largest)
  7.  You get a pop-up box asking if you want to Expand the selection area – Say YES
  8.  Long tail keyword suggestions are ranked as follows:

Low — Competitiveness number under .33
Medium — Competitiveness number between .33 and .66
High — Competitiveness number over .67

Since you sorted them with the low competition keywords at the top, all you need to do is look for keywords that have significant traffic.

For example: Lead Generation is ridiculously competitive. However in 30 seconds I was able to see that “more leads”, “Hot Leads” and “I need leads” all have over 6,000 hits a month and have “LOW” competition.

In this five minute video, I’ll walk you through this very simple procedure.

Internet Marketing Tip – Quickly Find Relevant, Low Competition, High Traffic Long Tail Keywords
NOTE: This data is to be used with a grain of salt and remember “THE COMPETITION HERE IS FOR ADWORDS”, not “Competition for Website traffic.”   We are primarily interested in website traffic competition.   This does give us an general idea.
