AWeber is a web-based “autoresponder” company. Autoresponders maintain  your lists of people and  send emails to them. That is the simple description, but there is much more once you start to dig.  There are a number of companies that compete, but most Internet Marketers seem to end up with AWeber until they get huge.   Since the mantra of Internet Marketers is “The Fortune is in the List” you really need to know and use your list to make your fortune.  A number I hear regularly is you can expect about $1 per month for each name on your list.  Not everyone will buy any particular product, but it averages out to about a $1 per month per subscriber.

One of the things I see regularly is the Internet Marketer’s assume that their students have an AWeber account set up with Squeeze Pages and they are ready to go.  On the other hand, I don’t see much in the way of step-by-step training to get you started and moving with AWeber.

This starts a series of posts that will walk you through basic  AWeber Training.

Disclaimer

There are lots of ways to use AWeber.  I’m going to show you what works for me.  Others may show you something different.

There are scripts and systems that you can buy to host you own database of names.   However, Internet Marketers use companies like AWeber for a couple of reasons:

  1. Sending people a series of emails is powerful, but it becomes complex if you have to manage it manually and people start the process at different times.   This is the usual case for Internet Marketers.
  2. There are legal issues that the autoresponder companies take care of.  Things like having your name and address on each email and have a way for people to automatically unsubscribe to you list if they do not want further emails from you.
  3. The Companies (like AWeber) take care of dealing with SPAM complaints
  4. Getting past SPAM filters is also important.

Here are the sections our AWeber Training will cover:

  1. Getting People Into your Lists

  3. The email drip system (AWeber calls these the Follow-up emails)
  4. Broadcast emails.

Most of our time will be spent on the number 1 item:  Getting people into your lists.

Important Facts

I want to start with a couple of things you REALLY need to know by the end of your AWeber Training.

  1. There is no way to automatically move people from one list to another.  You really need to think about creating your lists properly early on.
  2. AWeber does it’s best to ensure that you only email to people who know they have agreed to accept further communication with you.  This does NOT include swapping business cards at a Networking meeting.  It does include sign-up lists or fish bowls where you ask for business cards for the express purpose of getting onto a Newsletter list.  The most common method is online where the user swaps their email address for something (an eBook, a Webinar, an audio file, etc.)
  3. Your email sequence has a dual purpose – First you MUST offer value to your readers.  They need to feel like you are helping them.  They need to know, like and trust you.  Second you MUST offer them something to buy.  People on your list buying the products you offer is the WHOLE POINT of this operation.
  4. The more information you ask for (name, phone, address), the lower the conversion rate.  Many marketers now just ask for an email address and call everyone :Friend.:
  5. People will not open all of your emails.  Make sure you repeat your offers over several days. I have heard a minimum of 5 or 7.  You don’t need to duplicate the same email over and over (that would be bad), but the thing you are giving to your readers or selling to your readers should be the same for several days.
  6. People are MUCH more likely to get involved with big-ticket items on a sales webinar after they have been on your list for a while and have learned that “You give them value.”
  7. As you become more familiar with the tools, split testing (comparing the success of different options) will become more and more important.

A Quick Walk Through – An Overview of Your AWeber Training

Let’s  finish  today’s AWeber Training with a quick look at the moving parts of AWeber.  I’m going to give you a slightly more complete series of steps than many AWeber Trainers would   The extra steps should help you dramatically in the long run.  The system I am describing allows you to expand so that you have multiple ethical bribes and they all still work for you.

          THINGS TO DO BEFORE WORKING WITH AWEBER

  1. You need a website or a blog.  It is also possible to use a tab on a Facebook Fan Page.
  2. You need what is often called an “Ethical Bribe”  This is something that you think your niche audience would see as valuable enough to trade their email address for.
  3. It would be VERY nice to have something to sell.

    THINGS YOU DO ONE TIME IN AWeber

  4. Create Your Main List – this is the list your will send a series of emails (drip serices or follow-up series) to when people sign up for your Ethical Bribe.  ( Creating Lists )
  5. Create a list specific to your Ethical Bribe. ( Creating Lists )
  6. Create a “Paid Customer” List  ( Creating Lists )
  7. Create a “Broadcast Only” List   (  Creating Lists )
  8. Create a day 0 follow up email in your main list.  It says: “The item you requested is on the way in a separate email”   Make this generic. ( Bare Minimum Follow-up emails )
  9. Create a day 0 follow up email in your product specific list.  It says: “here is the download you requested.”  ( Bare Minimum Follow-up emails )
  10. Use the automation feature to automatically sign people up for your main list when they ask for your ethical bribe and subscribe to your ethical bribe specific list. ( Creating Lists )
  11. Create a series of emails that will go out to people who respond to your ethical bribe offer.
  12. Create a Squeeze page or a Widget in your blog where you offer your ethical bribe.  (Simple Squeeze Page  and  Build a Widget)
  13. Create a Thank You Page in your website or blog where you Thank the person for asking for your material AND OFFER THEM SOMETHING ELSE, something with a price tag.
  14. Create or Find a nice button to use on your AWeber Web From.  (Create a Cool Button)
  15. Create a Web Form in AWeber.  The Web Form will be at the very least a place for the person to put their email address and a SUBMIT button.  AWeber provides you with the HTML code to insert into your Squeeze page or Widget.  When people enter their email and press submit, the information is sent to AWeber and the person is automatically added to your list.   16. Paste the HTML code into your Squeeze page and or widget.  ( Simple Squeeze Page )

    REGULARLY IN AWeber

  17. Send one time Broadcast messages to your list when something new and unusual or useful happens.
  18. Check the Statistics.  Basic Reports
