Email marketing is a huge topic and the internet and books stores are filled with professional advice on crafting effective marketing emails. Corporate marketers seem to spend considerable amounts of time studying the topic. Bloggers, on the other hand, often seem to give the topic a lick and a promise.
Why Should Bloggers Care?
A number thrown around the Internet Marketing space quite a bit is: “An effective Internet Marketer will generate about $1 per subscriber per month.” This is done through developing a responsive and cared-for list. Building a responsive and cared-for list is done by crafting effective marketing emails. It is a simple as that. We are going to look into the how-tos in this series. We are also going to look at some of the things that are changing – and some of the accepted marketing emails practices are changing.
I suspect that part of the reason that bloggers don’t pay more attention to crafting effective marketing emails is because when you look at creating a marketing funnel, the early focus is on the steps necessary for creating a solid foundation so that you can “build a list.”
The Steps in Creating a Marketing Funnel
Let’s take a quick look at a partial list of tasks facing the typical Internet Marketing blogger:
- Determine Your Niche (There is an e-book about this in my resources page)
- Determine Your Unique Selling Proposition
- Determine what problem(s) you are going to solve
- Decide what you are going to sell
- Set up a blog that is congruent with items 1 – 4.
- Create pages like About Me, Work With Me, Contact Me, Terms and Conditions, Earning Disclaimer, Privacy and more
- Create Ethical Bribes (There is also an eBook on this on my Resources page – Create an eBook in 30 Minutes or Less)
- Create or Find Sellable Products
- Create Squeeze Pages
- Create Thank You Pages
- Learn enough about autoresponders to capture names and email addresses
- Provide value by writing blog posts
- Learning to offer better value by learning copywriting. (There is an intro to copywriting on my resources page – Copywriting 101)
- Learn about SEO and organic search for traffic.
- Learn PPC (Facebook and/or Google and/or YouTube and/or others) for traffic.
- Learn to use Social Media to Drive Traffic to your Blog and your offers.
- Add follow-up emails to the autoresponder lists
- Send broadcast emails to the autoresponder lists
When you look at this list, actually writing and sending marketing emails to the subscriber list you have created seems like it is a long way down the priority list and it can be put off for a while. The “while” often becomes forever which is a recipe for failure.
