Start Your Blog with a Static HOME Page
When you create a new WordPress blog, it defaults to showing
your most recent posts as your “Home Page.” Many trainers
feel that you should change this. It is EASY to do.

Start Your Blog with a Static HOME Page
The default Home Page for WordPress blogs is a page that contains
the titles and a short description of your most recent blog posts.
Many (I would guess MOST, but I can’t prove it) blog trainers feel
that this isn’t the best HOME Page for a blog.
THE HOME PAGE PROBLEM
You are writing your blog for a reason. It may be just to talk
about your passion. Or it may be to attract readers so that
in the end your can make money. Regardless, you would like
for new visitors to understand your purpose and get to know
you. This initial message is something that you can craft,
split test, refine and work on until it really delivers YOU to
your new readers. That is IF YOU HAVE A STATIC HOME PAGE.
If your blog starts with your most recent posts it will look
different every time you write a new post.
Ignoring the menus – here is a version of the default look.
The header and the sidebar will be the same every time,
but the message area will constantly be changing and
therefor delivering a different “first Impression.”
Here is the same blog – with a static home page.
How To Create a Static Home Page
There are two steps.
- Create a new page called HOME and a new Page called Blog (or My Blog).
I’m not going to show this. These are standard pages create with Pages –> Add New - Change the settings.
The standard place for making this change is in the Appearance Menu under Reading.
There are some themese (like OptimziePress) that put it elsewhere or modify it slightly.
I haven’t seen one that didn’t tell you explicitly about any change they made.
Once you have clicked on the READING menu option you will see this page
(or something like it.)
The default has the top option checked. When you choose Static
Home Page it asks you to pick a page from the drop down menus.
this is why you need to have created the pages before you come here.
That is all there is to creating a Static Home Page.
Now CRAFTING a GOOD Home page – well that is a different issue
all together.
