Firefox setup - Speed up TipThis post is about a Firefox Setup tip that is a time-saving tip that can save you a lot of time.  It is part of a Free Tools and Inexpensive Tools series.  Firefox is used by many power users on the Internet, but not everyone know about some of the tips and tricks you can use to get the most out of the browser.  In another post I talked about LastPass, a password management system that will automatically fill in user names and passwords.  Using LastPass is a time-saving tip.  We also talked about Rapportive – an add-on to GMail that also works in your browser.  Today’s time-saving tip is about how to set Firefox up so that it automatically brings up the web sites you regularly use, every time Firefox starts.

This is a continuation of a short series where I’ll introduce you to some of the best tools I’ve found in several years of searching.  We are not looking at the expensive tools here but instead will focus on tools that are VERY useful and cost less than $100 – one time.  BTW – the tools must be POWER tools to make the list…

Firefox Setup – A Six Step Process

In this six-minute  video I’ll tell you more.

LastPass – a Password Management System

Step #1 – Set the Start Up Option to Show the Windows and Tabs from Last Time

Open the Options Menu

Step #3 – Create a Bookmark Folder Called My Defaults (or Hales Defaults or Joes Defaults etc.)

Firefox Setup - Create My Defaults Folder

#1 – Click the Arrow beside Bookmarks Menu (It will be pointing down when you see it)

#2 – Click on the New Folder button and  Enter My Defaults or <Your Name> Defaults

#3 – Click on Done

#4 – You can see mine is already there as Hale-Defaults

Step #4 – Bookmark each of the windows into your My Defaults Folder

Step #5 – Pin Each of the Windows – You can see my Pinned Tabs in Step #1

Firefox Setup - Pin The Tabs

Every now and then Firefox will open and the pinned tabs will not be there (if you main window is not the last Firefox window closed)  in that case you have one more step

Step #6 – Open the My Defaults Bookmark Folder – the last option is Open All – Click that and then Pin All the Tabs.

This Setup will bring up your usual tabs every time Firefox start.  That (plus LastPass) will save you considerable time every day.
